The Story of Prophet Saleh (pbuh)

After the destruction of Aad, the tribe of Thamud succeeded them in power and glory. The people of Thamud were located in what is today known as Madyan Saleh in Saudi Arabia.

As their material wealth increased so, did their evil ways and their character became worse. They started to worship idols. Like the people of Ad, they built huge buildings on the plains and made beautiful homes out of the hills. They took great pride in their fertile farmland and grand architecture. They became very proud and arrogant.

Allah SWT chose Saleh (pbuh) from amongst the Thamud as a prophet. Saleh (pbuh) told his people, “O my people. Worship Allah, you have no other God but him.” S.11:61.

Saleh was known for his wisdom, purity and goodness and had been greatly respected by his people before Allah’s revelation came to him. Saleh’s (pbuh) people said to him: “0 Saleh! We always liked you and thought that one day you would be our chief, till this new thing which you have brought, that we leave our gods and worship your Allah alone! Do you forbid us the worship of what our fathers have worshiped? We do not believe in your God.

Eventually, the people of Thamud asked Saleh for a miracle, to prove that he was indeed a true prophet of Allah SWT.

They pointed at a rock that they worshipped, and demanded: “Ask your Lord to make a she-camel – which must be ten months pregnant, tall and attractive – issue from the rock for us.”

Saleh replied: “If Allah agrees to your demand, do you promise to believe in him, his angels, his books and his messengers.

They answered: “Yes.”

Saleh then prayed to Allah to grant them their request. Allah ordered the distant rock to split, bringing forth a great ten-month pregnant she-camel. When the people saw the camel, they were amazed. Some believed instantly while a great majority including the rich and the leaders of the Thamud thought it was magic. According to Quran Saleh (Pbuh) said to his people, “Oh my people! Worship Allah; there is no other god but Him. Now comes to you a clear sign from your Lord! This camel is a sign for you, so leave her to graze in Allah’s earth, and let her come to no harm, or you will be seized with a horrible punishment.

There are a number of ancient accounts of this camel and its miraculous nature. It was said that the she-camel was miraculous because a rock in the mountain split open and the camel came forth from it she gave birth to the baby camel after 3 days. The camel started nursing her newborn and the people of Thamud’s mouth watered as they looked at the milk. They hurried over to their Prophet Saleh and informed him that the camel had given birth.
They said to him, “We want to make use of the camel of Allah that for whose sake you invoked Him. For, her calf will not drink all of her milk …and this milk may be blessed.”
Saleh informed them that they were allowed the camel’s milk by Allah’s grace. However, he divided the water between the camel and them.
He said, “You shall leave the water for the camel to drink while you drink from her milk, and on the second day you drink the water and leave the milk for the camel to nurse her newborn with.”
The people agreed to their Prophet’s suggestion. In this way, the camel’s existence as a never-ending source of milk began. Allah had blessed the milk so that it covered the needs of the entire nation of Thamud.
The camel was loved by all those who followed Saleh (pbuh) and believed in his prophethood. The old chiefs of the Thamud however, looked at the camel with hatred, as it reminded them of Saleh’s truthfulness in claiming to be a prophet of God.

Saleh feared that they might kill the camel, so he warned them: “0 my people! This she-camel of Allah is a sign to you, leave her to feed on Allah’s earth, and touch her not with evil, or Allah’s punishment will seize you.” Surah 11: 64

The disbelievers now began complaining that this huge she-camel with its unusual qualities drank most of the water and frightened their cattle. They watched the camel closely, observing all its movements. A group of seven disbelievers were chosen to kill the camel. Out of these 7, two took the lead, having been offered the hand in marriage of two beautiful girls, as reward for their evil act.

As the she-camel came to drink at the well, one of the disbelievers shot it in the leg with an arrow. The she-camel tried to escape but could not because of the arrow. Another disbeliever, followed the camel and struck it with a sword in the other leg. As it fell to the ground, he killed it with his sword.

The killers were given a hero’s welcome, cheered with songs and poetry composed in their praise. In their arrogance they mocked Saleh, but he warned them: “Enjoy life for three more days then the punishment will come down upon you.” Saleh was hoping that they would see the stupidity of their ways and change their attitude before the punishment of Allah.

“Why three days? Why not today?” they asked. “Let the punishment come as quickly as possible. Your Allah couldn’t protect His own camel. How do you think he will harm us?”

He pleaded with them: “My people, why do you want Allah to show His anger to you? Why do you not ask Allah for his forgiveness, so that you may receive mercy?”

They replied: “We see your presence and that of your followers as bringing evil on us.”

The Chiefs of the disbelievers, now decided to kill Saleh and his family, but Allah SWT spoilt their plans.

Three days after Saleh’s warning, Allah SWT sent his punishment. Thunderbolts filled the air, followed by severe earthquakes, which destroyed the entire tribe and its homeland. The land was violently shaken, destroying all living creatures in it. There was one terrible cry which had hardly ended when the disbelievers were struck dead in their homes. The Quran says, “So the earthquake took them unaware, and they lay prostrate in their homes in the morning”. Neither their strong buildings nor their homes made of stone could protect them.

According to a hadith. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was passing by Thamud’s houses on his way to the battle of Tabuk, he stopped together with the people there. The people fetched water from the wells from which the people of Thamud used to drink. They prepared their dough (for baking) and filled their water-skins from it (the water from the wells). The Prophet of Allah ordered them to empty the water-skins and give the prepared dough to the camels. Then he went away with them until they stopped at the well from which the she-camel (of Saleh) used to drink. He warned them against entering upon the people who had been punished, saying: “I fear that you may be affected by what afflicted them; so do not enter upon them.”

I am the one who will hold you

fathers_handWhat should I tell you about myself?

Where should I begin, oh… Let me think

Let me try n tell you some things…

From the day I was created and the day I’ll end

Will have to undergo to I don’t know what extent

Was told to serve them till it will all end

And that is why I was created and that is how it will end

Have seen some walk on me with pride

Some were humble and some were kind….

Have seen them happy and sad at times

Seen some doing hideous crimes

Have seen peace and war many times

Killing many and saving a little time

Have seen them performing magic too

Some inside me n some outside

Seen them scratching and digging me to the spine

Have given them water, fruit and vegies too

Gold and silver and minerals too

Have made myself available for them for all times…

Should I tell you about the saddest moment in time

When I saw lil girls being buried alive

Some were new born and some were old

Some were just put in me as they were born

Some were running and holding their fathers

Some didn’t know what was happening to them

While some closed their eyes in me, while napping.

I tried that they will not be able to dig in me

And think once again what they were doing

I wanted to take those lil girls out

But was told to hide them till the day they will be ordered out

I held them in my womb

I covered them in flowers

I did what their parents were suppose to do

I made them go to sleep in the most beautiful way

I cooled myself and so that they can stay

I am the one who will hold you and bring you out that day

When you will be asked for why were you in there

What crime you committed what sin you bare

What should I tell you about the people who left them in me

Wanted to swallow them and break them in me

Some were killed in the name of honor

Some were buried because the neighbor said so

Some were forced to, because of what a stigma she was

And some put them in me willing

Some felt sad as their lil girl thought they were playing

Some put sand on them while playing

Loosening their father’s finger as they rest in me

Some just kept on digging more and more graves

Pride and vanity washed these men away

They looked like humans but were animals in disguise

Who didn’t know what a daughters love is actually like..

Some men realized for what they have done

Crying every moment for their little ones

As now there is no one with whom they can play

As the Smile of their lil one use to sway them away…

The Story of Nuh

Noahs_ArkLong time ago, there lived a very pious Prophet Nuh (pbuh). Prophet Nuh (pbuh) lived in a village were most of the people did not believe in Allah, they began to stray to the wrong evil path and worshipped idols.

Allah Commanded Prophet Noah to warn his people, Allah said:
“Warn your people before there comes upon them a grievous penalty.” –57:61

Nuh (pbuh) tried his best that people mend their ways, he spoke to them in public and preached them in private. (pause 5s)

As per the Quran, Prophet Nuh (pbuh) lived to the age of almost 950 years, but throughout his long prophecy, only a handful of people accepted Islam. (pause)

He warned his people of grievous consequences which would follow if they continued to worship the false gods and lead an immoral life.
Assuring them that he was not seeking any wealth or power or favours from them, as in Holy Quran, he said:
“And O my people! I ask you for no wealth in return: my reward is from none but Allah.” —, 11:29

Each time he urged them to ask for Allah’s pardon, they would thrust their fingers in their ears, and draw their cloaks over their heads and told him to leave them alone.

They use to mock him that he was just being followed by the poor and weak, at times they use to threaten to stone him, he was called mad and crazy. (pause)

The chiefs would then turn in anger towards the Prophet and challenged him arrogantly:
“O Noah! Indeed you have disputed with us and you have prolonged the dispute: now bring upon us what you have threatened us with, if you are of the Truthful Ones.” —( Holy Qur’an, 11:32)

This made Nuh (pbuh) very sad.
Prophet Noah re-doubled his efforts but all to no avail. (pause)
Eventually, Nuh (pbuh) gave up. He cried out to his Lord:
“O my Lord! I have called to my people by night and by day, but they have increased in their transgression
He asked for Allah’s help, in saving the believers and punishing the disbelievers. Allah ordered Nuh(pbuh) to construct the ark with His guidance.
Joking that the ark was far from sea, being made on land, the chiefs of his people use to moak at Nuh(pbuh). The pagans dared Nuh (pbuh) ,”bring Allah’s doom” joking about the flood. They didn’t realize that the stormy waves would soon wash them away.
After a very long period of hard tiring work, the ark was finally ready. Then Nuh (pbuh) said: “Embark! In the name of Allah, it shall set sail and cast anchor. My Lord is forgiving and merciful.”

Allah asked Nuh (pbuh) to take aboard with him a pair of every living creature along with his faithful believers. As soon they all come on board the rain began to fall, more and more rain fell each day. The rivers overflowed. It was as if the skies had drained all their water, and the seas and earth vomited out the water in their bellies.

The disbelievers didn’t want to go with Nuh (pbuh). Initially they said,” we are not scared of the rain!” But later the disbelievers who had ignored Allah’s guidance were in a grievous state. All was lost to them. The heavy downpour of rain, the strong winds, the deafening thunder and the blinding lightning created confusion in their minds and fear in their hearts. They ran helter-skelter in search for safety. They climbed the roof-tops and the trees but nothing could save them now as the waters rose higher and higher.

Amongst the disbelievers was one of Nuh’s (pbuh) own son. Prophet Nuh’s Ark was sailing safely on the waters and when the Prophet saw his son he called out to him and said:
‘O my son! Embark with us and be not with the disbelievers’. The son replied: ‘I will climb some mountain, it will save me from the flood’. And Nuh said: ‘This day nothing can save you from what Allah has decreed, for only those on whom He has Mercy will be saved’. And the waves came between them, and the son was among the drowned ones.” — Holy Qur’an, 11:42-43

There was water everywhere, no land could be seen, The ark rolled to and fro and everybody was very scared, but Allah was watching over them.
Suddenly the rain stopped and the clouds moved away and the sun began to shine, the water started to dry up. The ark came to rest on a dry mountain.
The prophet Nuh(pbuh) and his companions thanked Allah SWT for saving them from such a devastating flood. Everyone happily came out of the ark.
As in the holy Quran, Prophet Noah prayed:
“O my Lord! Let my landing from the ark be blessed, for you alone can make me land in safety.” — 23:29

In this way Allah made the flood and the ark of Nuh (pbuh) a sign and a warning for the future generations.

It was from the children of Nuh (pbuh) that mankind spread on the earth. Before he died, he advised his three sons, Ham, Yapeth, and Sham to worship Allah without shirk, and stay on the right path.
